SDGs-Advocacy Dialogue on Education

With the aim of achieving Sustainable development Goals in our state and nation, Institute for Sustainable Development and Governance (ISDG) is initiating a series of Advocacy Dialogue meetings focusing on each of the 17 goals (SDGs).
The third in the series was held on Wedneday, the 31st of January, 2018, from 3 pm to 5 pm at ISDG Centre at Golf Links, Kowdiar.
In this roundtable, the focus was on Goal 4, Education, that is to ‘ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’
Dr. Rajan Gurukkal (Vice Chairman, Kerala State Higher Education Council), Dr. Achuthsankar. S.Nair (HoD, Dept. of Computational Biology & Bioinformatics, University of Kerala) delivered speeches addressing the topic. 

Dr. Rajan Gurukkal emphasised the need for teachers to come out of the conventional thinking and focus on connecting knowledge with social justice. He said that when the acquired of knowledge should evolve into a realisation and true politics is when people with such realisation come together and work collectively for the benefit of the society at large.

Dr. Achuthsankar. S. Nair,  during his presentation, spoke about the importance of quality in education. He said that the aspirations of the lower middle class is prompting them to abandon govt. schools. He also shed light on the influence of television and internet in the family set up calling them guest lecturers in the University of Family. ISDG Director Abraham George presided over the function. Experts and persons from varied fields such as education, public policy, economics and media also participated in the dialogue.
