SDGs-College Awareness Programme

ISDG conducted its second college awareness programme on Sustainable Development Goals in Kerala context, at Arts College in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the college on February 21st from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm.

The programme began with welcome speech by Anil Kumar P.Y (Fellow, ISDG). Dr. K. Murugan (Principal, Arts College) made an introductory speech. Sunil K.P (Fellow, ISDG), made an elaborate presentation on the 17 SDGs. He raised concern over the high unemployment rate in Kerala among educated youth while at the same time the state remain as a hub for immigrant workers. He pointed out how the contribution of the housewives to socioeconomic growth is underrated and asserted the role of youth in achieving various SDGs.

The session ended with an open discussion. Dr. Cyriac Mathews (Economist & Senior Fellow, ISDG) chaired the session. He highlighted the role of students in achieving SDGs. The students raised a range of queries over education and unemployment to life under water and how science and technology influence sustainable development.
